Our First Steps Towards a Greener Future

Getting ready for our eTwinning adventure at Secondary School No. 1 Unțeni, Romania

The past two weeks have been filled with enthusiasm, curiosity, and creativity for the 5th-grade students of Secondary School No. 1 Unțeni, Romania. Our young learners have officially begun their journey in the international eTwinning project “Technology for a Greener Future”, an exciting educational initiative that combines environmental awareness, STEM education, digital skills, and European collaboration.

Getting Ready for the Adventure

Before beginning our activities, an important first step was ensuring that all students could participate in a safe and supportive environment.

Parents were informed about the project and signed the necessary consent forms, expressing their agreement with their children's participation in the planned activities.

With these preparations completed, we were ready to introduce our students to the wonderful world of eTwinning!

Discovering Our Project

During an introductory session, students learned about the project's main objectives, activities, and expected outcomes.

We discussed how technology can help us protect the environment and how simple ideas can become practical solutions to real-world problems.

Special attention was given to STEM education and Arduino technology, which will play an important role in our future activities.

Our students discovered that, throughout the project, they will have the opportunity to explore two exciting challenges:

  • A Smart House for a Greener Future: exploring how sensors and automation can help reduce electricity consumption.

  • A Smart Irrigation System: investigating how technology can help us care for plants while using water more efficiently.

For many of our young participants, this will be their first experience with electronics, sensors, and programming. We hope it will encourage them to experiment, ask questions, and discover the joy of learning by doing.

Who Are We? Let's Introduce Ourselves!

International collaboration begins with getting to know one another.

To prepare for their first interactions with their European partners, our students wrote short personal descriptions, sharing information about themselves, their interests, and their hobbies.

This simple activity encouraged them to reflect on their own identities, practise communication skills, and prepare to connect with students from different countries.

Creating Our Digital Avatars

One of the most enjoyable activities during these first two weeks was creating personal digital avatars.

Using Avatar Maker, students explored different options for designing characters that could represent them in the project's online environment.

They experimented with hairstyles, facial features, colours, accessories, and backgrounds, discovering how digital tools can help them express their personalities creatively.

The avatars will be used on the eTwinning platform, allowing our young participants to introduce themselves while making their online interactions more engaging.

Beyond the creative aspect, this activity also provided an opportunity to discuss digital identity, online safety, and responsible communication.

Working individually and in small groups, students shared ideas, helped one another, and discovered that learning becomes even more enjoyable when we collaborate.

A Promising Beginning

Although our journey has only just begun, these first activities have already helped us build a foundation for teamwork, creativity, and international cooperation.

Our students are looking forward to meeting their project partners from Greece and Turkey, exchanging ideas, and discovering how young people from different countries can work together towards a common goal.

We believe that technology is not only about computers, electronic components, or programming. It is also about imagination, problem-solving, collaboration, and finding creative ways to make our world a better place.

Our adventure has just begun, and we cannot wait to see where curiosity, friendship, and innovation will take us!

🌱 Together, we are learning, creating, and building a greener future!
